The Switch, World-Class, Agile Power Electronics Product Supplier Joins the Maritime Battery Forum
The Netherlands, 27th January 2025 – The Switch, a world-class company focusing on power electronics within the maritime industry, has joined the Maritime Battery Forum.
The Switch is an agile product supplier of custom electric machines and power electronics products for system integrators (SIs) and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). The company is on a mission to electrify the world with game-changing green technologies. With products accelerating the switch toward net-zero emissions in marine, wind and industrial applications, The Switch is growing together with customers who find the key to their success in the company’s innovative technologies and optimized products.
Projects with Maritime Batteries
The Switch began working with batteries as early as were introduced to the maritime industry. Batteries, in general, drive the change from AC electrical systems to DC-distribution systems, which is one of the company’s main objectives. This makes the pairing of batteries and The Switch power electronics a good match. DC distribution remains the most efficient way to utilize batteries. The Switch’s main power electronic product, the DC-Hub for maritime DC distribution, is an optimal solution to connect batteries to electrical systems. Today, more than 90% of the company’s projects include batteries provided by system integrators. A significant project example is the delivery of DC- Hubs, battery short-circuit limiters (BSCLs) and shore charging power electronics to Australian company Incat, which has the world’s largest fully electric ferry powered by batteries.
State-of-the-Art Technology
Batteries play a key role in reducing maritime emissions. Becoming a member of the global community of maritime battery enablers marks a significant move forward in The Switch’s strategy to electrify the industry. Therefore, the Maritime Battery Forum’s activities to connect key companies working with maritime batteries naturally aligns with The Switch’s expertise and vision
The Switch’s products, such as the DC-Hub and battery short-circuit limiter, employ state-of-the- art technology using batteries in the safest and most efficient manner. These innovations contribute to MBF’s global community and the maritime industry by helping to establish new, more efficient systems as well as regulatory compliances to support the adoption of new technologies. In turn, MBF’s role of providing access to scientific data is valuable for The Switch to stay up to date on current trends in technology and market development.
About the Maritime Battery Forum
The Maritime Battery Forum was founded with the aim of promoting new and efficient energy storage technologies in the maritime industry. With over 87 members on 3 continents, the MBF works to disseminate information, facilitate discussion about and review new technology which is complementary to battery technology-based solutions or in one way or the other play an important role towards a zero-emission vision.
